The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) recently has taken an important step to increase its educational webinar program by being recognized as an “approved provider” by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). ” AEC’s webinars have proven to be a highly effective method to disseminate essential information about the aluminum extrusion process, applications, design and more to engineers, designers, architects, specifiers, and academia,” notes Jeff Henderson, AEC President. “ With AIA’s recognition of AEC as an approved provider, those webinars can be even more valuable.”

The initial offering under this expanded program will be a one-hour webinar targeted to the architectural community: “Leveraging Aluminum Extrusions’ Attributes for Effective Building Solutions”, scheduled for August 24, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. EDT. Speakers include Lewie Smith, President of Jordan Aluminum Extrusion Company in Memphis, Tennessee and Shayne Seever, VP Administration for Sierra Aluminum in Riverside, California. Both companies are Extruder Members of AEC and the speakers bring a wealth of information and expertise to the building and construction audience for this webinar.

The presentation includes a review of the attributes of aluminum and the extrusion process, and then then focuses on several characteristics of greatest importance to today’s designer. It will also address the three key design variables – alloy selection, part geometry, and fabrication – for creating effective solutions for building solutions. Mini-cases will illustrate creative and cost-effective extrusion solutions in a number of markets with an emphasis on building components. The webinar is aimed at the designer or engineer with moderate familiarity with aluminum’s attributes, the extrusion process and the basics of extrusion design.

“Many designers and engineers graduate from higher learning institutions having learned little about the aluminum extrusion process and the unique attributes that make designing with extrusions a great solution compared to other materials and processes,” said Lewie Smith, AEC Building & Construction Industry Promotion Team Chair. “This webinar offers another tool to use, and may provide inspiration, for designers and engineers in finding the right solution for design challenges.”
