Effective on July 1, 2024, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) of the Department of Commerce (DOC) removed several General Approved Exclusions (GAEs) which affected aluminum extrusions imported into the US. The removal of certain forms of aluminum extrusions from the GAEs meant that importers of these extruded products must file an Exclusion Request to which extruders are able to file an Objection. Overall, the process with BIS typically takes 60 - 80 days to work through.
Earlier this week, the first Determinations were communicated with excellent results. In total, 35 Determinations were made with 33 Exclusion Requests Denied (Won) and 2 Exclusion Requests Granted (Lost). Since the beginning of the Exclusion Request process, AEC member companies have reviewed hundreds of Exclusion Requests and filed over 900 Objections.
Thank you to all the participating member companies! These are great first results and the AEC looks forward to updating membership at the Fall Management Conference with more detailed information.
